This one is a complete redesign of one of my earliest ship designs. Initially posted [link] , and later re-rendered and re-posted [link]

I've been working on this one much much longer than I would like to admit, and I am still not absolutely satisfied with it.

Tried out a new render method this time around, would love to know what you lot think of the results.

As always, C&C or commentary on the ship and modeling is very welcome.

Scince people are asking, the render method is pretty simple

software used is 3dsmax9

material colour is roughly 50% grey with a crimson spec colour

lights in the scene: directional spot on the nearside with a orange-ish colour, directional spot on the far side of lower intensity with a blue-ish colour, single skylight above the model

exposure control 'tweaks' are responsible for the quality of shadows

the hull is right about 50k-ish but i was a dumbass and forgot to make LODs of my turrets until i had them all in place....so at the end of the ordeal its right about 6mil tri

Definitely awesome. I've always watched your stuff and anything AFF related. Gorgeous design aesthetics in general for all your ships.

One thing I noticed kinda early on was that her hull seems very "smooth" and the turrents turn that smooth feeling into something spiky. I'm not sure if there's any way to avoid that, but I thought I might as well put it out there.

I like the abstract, sculptural qualities of the design. Very phallic, but good work and well executed. All you need now are some killer textures. :)

Excellent re-design and up-build. Holds a sense of scale on it's own now. More realistic in the details.

What's the new render method? Lighting looks good on it, almost makes me think IBL. . .

Ok, I've travelled around dA a lot, but THAT'S amazing! Outstanding! Even though its just the mesh it looks... wow! Please get this bastard textures :+fav:
